Occupational Medicine Frequently Asked Questions
What is an MRO (Medical Review Officer)?
A Medical Review Officer, or MRO, is a physician who is certified to review drug screen results. If your company chooses this service and you have a positive drug screen, our MRO will review the result, contact and interview the patient, and then determine whether there is a reason other than illegal or illicit drugs as to why the result is positive. This service is required on DOT drug screens; however, we recommend it for non-DOT drug screens as well. By using a MRO an employer may decrease its legal risks in the event it takes adverse action against an employee for a positive drug screen result.
